The season of endless sunny days and getting tanned by the captivating sun is finally coming close to an end. Summer of love, summer of laughs, and summer of fun is an amazing period for all of us but as all good things come to an end summer does too. But that doesn’t mean there are not some great destinations that truly are amazing at this time of year.

That, however, doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t continue traveling anymore. Autumn is nearby and slowly gaining ground; it’s getting closer day by day and in the process removing the warmth from the atmosphere bit by bit. The chilly nights have started to settle in and soon the rains will follow as well. Despite the situation with the pandemic if you are careful and follow the guidelines for the protection you can still travel safely. Well at least to the countries that allow all to travel now.‏ ‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎

There’s a variety of places with different architectures and tourist attractions. That’s done because the larger the variety the more chances are that everyone is going to find the right place for them to travel to. The fully active tourist season in the fall slows down the pace and it’s perfect for sightseeing and exploring different buildings from old historical ones to mesmerizing cultural ones. Zurich

Zurich, Switzerland

We start with Zurich, which is mostly known as the city of bankers. I’m pretty sure you must have heard about it at some point in your life. It’s one of the most iconic Swiss cities in the world and it has it all. Zurich it’s filled with entertainment and it’s a complete experience from history, cultural sites, and parties. It’s a bit pricey but quality comes it.

One of the main attractions we suggest you visit first it’s Landesmuseum or in English the Swiss National Museum. There you can find ancient collections dating from the prehistoric era and lots more like that. In total in the city are more than fifty museums each with something special that holds.

The culture distribution is really amazing and this has helped the city’s tourism a lot. There are even family-friendly ones that are about children where you could visit as a family. Or such an inspiring museum that explains in an easy and understandable way the processes in and on our planet. It showcases exciting aspects of the Earth and explains how earthquakes are triggered, what makes volcanoes erupt, where gems come from, and what fossils tell us about the origin of life. The exhibit also explains how the Alps came to be and what the climate was once like in the past.

Full disclosure.  Kati and I love Zurich but have to admit we got lost in the city and could not find our car.  We searched for hours until we finally found it.  We now always take a photo of where we park with our cell phone to avoid this problem.  Zurich is a wonderful city and not to be missed.  Just remember where you parked.

Düsseldorf

Dusseldorf, Germany

Kati was born and raised in Germany so we tend to explore quite a bit of the country when we go over to visit family.  Tourists that are exploring Europe or even Germany often overlook this little town on the bank of the Rhine which flows from the Swiss Alps down to the North Sea.

However, for those who do give Dusseldorf a chance, they find innumerable things to love and adore about the city and come back again and again after that. Dusseldorf has centuries of history to offer, and exploring the city is just like traveling back in time and finding random pieces of history displayed here and there.

In Kaiserpfalz are the ruins of Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa’s 10th-century castle, the 13th-century Schlossturm, the classic Benrath Palace, the 16th-century Rathaus with its renaissance complexity, the Schloss Jägerhof, and a number of other monuments that echo stories of wars, destruction, and peace. These features are so impressive that you don’t need to be a history student to appreciate them.

Dusseldorf is worth visiting even if only just to see the Rhine embankment. It has rows and rows of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and breweries which make the place very colorful and cheerful. You can spend hours exploring by biking or strolling around and there are a number of activities that you can do.

The place is in a festive spirit all year and especially when visiting in the winter where snow covers all the places and the view is fascinating. Tourists visiting in Summer can catch Japan Day, the Rhine Fair, the Cartwheel Championship, or an open-air movie screening to further enhance the enjoyment factor of their holiday. Where they can enjoy a nice brew of beer. Germany is well known for Oktoberfest so it’s of no surprise that Dusseldorf has its own brew name ‘Alstadt.’ You can find this beer brew in any of the old town’s narrow alleyways.

Bavaria

Neuschwanstein Castle

With family living in Bavaria, Kati and I often travel through the area and enjoy the atmosphere and the charming little towns that dot the countryside. Bavaria is Germany’s largest state, it’s located in the southeast corner of the country and is bordered by Austria and the Czech Republic. It’s one of Germany’s most popular tourist attractions, Bavaria is filled with entertainment and offers some of the country’s most beautiful views and scenery, from fantastic mountain peaks, rolling hills, and a number of small lakes. Some of the most beautiful towns in Germany are in Bavaria, and the entire area is filled in ancient history.

Although Bavaria is one of the most traditional parts of Germany that is filled with romantic castles, grand national palaces, and plenty old-world customs, you’ll find a lot of variety among its tourist destinations, including a lively contemporary art scene, modern cutting-edge architecture, and design, also state-of-the-art interactive museums. You could easily spend an entire vacation at this location and leave feeling complete.

Neuschwanstein is a place everyone that visits there has to see at least once. The castle is located in a glorious place and stands tall overlooking everything around it. The ‘Mad’ King Ludwig the second was eccentric in his choice of a fairy-tale-inspired neo-Romanesque style for his castle.

The spires and towers rise from the rocky crag above a dense forest and lake, with a beautiful panorama of the Bavarian Alps rising beyond. Which is widely recognized as the inspiration for Walt Disney’s theme park castles, it is every bit as fantastical inside as it is when first viewed from outside.

The Throne Room is another special place inside the castle, the Singers’ Hall, and other grandiose rooms are beautifully decorated and some might say over-decorated, in themes drawn from heroic legends, opera, and romantic literature. The views of the Alps from the windows are simply breathtaking and will make you want to stay there forever.

Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey

Turkey as a whole country is very special and you can easily say that it has and it offers all you can think about. It’s located on two continents and stretches from Europe to Asia and is surrounded by the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, the place that was formerly home to the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. In particular, Istanbul is more like this that offers everything, the city that is home to more than 14 million people is truly dynamic.

You can find anything from the reminders of past empires to views of modern cities. One of the most defining features of Istanbul is the Bosporus Strait, which keeps separate the European and Asian sides of the city. Each year there are numerous visitors that go on a boat ride to see this specific thing. If that’s not your thing don’t be worried cause there are a lot of other places to see and things to do. You can visit the fishing village of Anadolu Kavagi and palaces from the Byzantine era.

It is reported that the great Napoleon Bonaparte once has said that if the world was one then Istanbul would be its capital and that’s not a small thing to say especially from a man like him. In the fall things there start to take another shape and feel in a weird way more inviting than before. Maybe that has to do with the amazing food that this city offers which never goes out of circulation.

You can consider the city as the hub of gastronomical experiments, that is because there are always new dishes coming out mixed with the traditional Turkish recipes. Those make the eating experience always fresh and on point with the liking of most people there but for a newcomer, you may feel overwhelmed by the large variety that you will find.

You can never get bored visiting there whether from the sightseeing or by the amazing food that can be found in every corner. There are also large bazaars where you can go shopping for almost anything essential or not. These bazaars form the identity of Istanbul, one of the largest one is around 30,000 square meters. It’s literally called Labyrinthine Grand Bazar because you can also get lost in there. That’s how big it is and how much you can do in this amazing country.

These are just a few European destinations to enjoy in the fall. There are many more.  And do not forget about America.  There are many great destinations in New England to see the leaves change color and enjoy cooler weather and throughout the US.
